So I've vowed to write a blog once a month this year, and yes I know I've already missed the first month but to be honest Christmas got the better of me and I wouldn't of had a whole lot to talk about other than how much Christmas Pudding I had eaten!
But sitting in the van on the way to Huercal-Overa in Southern Spain, to start my first camp of the year with fellow Intelligent Triathlon coached Will Clakre and Lawrence Fanous, seemed like a good time to get the first one done. Leaving the Uk in the cold and dark this morning to be landing in sunny (yet a little windy) Spain is a welcome sight. Plus the idea of getting long miles on the bike in the sun, to me, it doesn't get much better. Especially when you have a brand new Giant Propel to ride!

Since starting being coached by Mark at the beginning of January my training has become much more focused and specific to my Xterra goals for the year. I think moving away from being a training partner with the World Class squad at Loughborough was a big decision but I think the right one. The training those boys do is fantastic but obviously aimed at a World Series race at the highest level. With my focus firmly being on Xterra Mark could offer me specific sessions for the demands of Xterra so it was something I had to do if I wanted to perform at a high level in the sport. Luckily I'm still based in Loughborough so ill get to long ride with the boys and see them most days.
We have 28-30 hours planned each week while we are out here with key sessions on the bike and run throughout the week, and of course some hills! With the first European Xterra races just around the corner its time to start putting those winter miles into use and bring some key race sessions into the training plan. My first race is looking to be Xterra Spain at the end of March and I cant wait to get back into the race year again. I going to try and get a video out by the beginning of next week giving an insight into what we are doing out here so keep an eye out!!
