What does 2016 have in store..... for me the big word is CONSISTENCY!!! For anyone that knows me well enough knows that 2015 wasn't my finest of years. I finished the year before on a high with Xterra England and my first World Champs as a Pro and I just wanted to jump into 2015 and race everything off-road. I soon realised this wasn't going to happen!! I just couldn't get to races, and instead of getting my head down and getting the work done. I just, for lack of a better word “bimbled” around. Me and coach sat down and came up with plan B, we settled with some domestic races in the UK such as the Castle Series half iron distances.
But something wasn't quite right, on the surface my podium finishes at these races gave the appearance of some decent form, but in truth behind the scenes the training really wasn't going well. Not that I was tired or injured, I just had no motivation. There were red boxes everywhere, and I just wanted to be racing Xterra!!!
As some of you might have seen I was out in Aguilas earlier in the year on a three week training camp with some good friends and training partners from Loughborough. There is nothing better for motivation than being in the sun and nothing other than training to think about, but for me, this is the easy bit! My “key sessions” however are when I get back, the miserable ones in the cold and wet. Keep my mind on the end goal and the journey to get there.
This year I'm coming at it from a different angle, get the hard work done and the racing will follow, get the ball rolling!!! Im lucky enough to have some amazing people supporting me this year, from companies supplying me with some amazing kit to people like my amazing other half who is incredibly understanding of what this sport involves.
So....2016 what does it have in store for me, CONSISTENCY!!!! Oh and some pretty Epic races in the pipeline, but more of that next time.
